When someone with myeloma develops sepsis and also has chronic kidney disease, it can make things more complicated, but doctors usually focus first on stabilizing the infection.

Sepsis is a serious infection and it can put a lot of stress on the body, especially when the immune system is already weaker from myeloma or its treatments. In many cases, doctors may pause or adjust myeloma treatment while they treat the infection with antibiotics and supportive care.

Kidney disease can also happen with myeloma, sometimes because of the proteins produced by the myeloma cells. When the kidneys are affected, doctors often need to adjust medication doses and monitor kidney function closely. Protecting kidney function and keeping the body stable becomes very important.

Once the infection is under control and his condition stabilizes, the medical team will usually reassess the myeloma treatment and decide the best way forward.

Myeloma can be a complicated disease because many systems in the body are connected, and sometimes one issue can affect another. That’s why careful monitoring and proper management are very important throughout the journey.
