Is it normal for a port to continue hurting after placement and infusion?

Some discomfort after port placement is common, but ongoing pain that continues after your infusion isn't typical and should be checked out. Ports are surgical devices placed in your chest or arm to make giving medications and drawing blood easier, but they need proper care to prevent infections.

You should contact your healthcare team right away if you're experiencing:
- Continued pain at the port site
- Redness or swelling
- Warmth around the area
- Any signs of infection

Pain during or after infusions can sometimes indicate the port isn't positioned correctly, there's irritation from the medication, or possibly an infection developing. Your medical team can examine the port, ensure it's functioning properly, and rule out any complications.

Don't wait to address this - it's always better to have your doctor check it out sooner rather than later to prevent any potential problems from getting worse.

I hope my questions won’t seem too personal. If you don’t feel comfortable answering, I will understand.

You stated that the port you had was for pain ? Can you tell me what medications your Doctor prescribed for pain ?
Can you explain the pain and how it developed for you? Does the pain spread all over your body or does it start in a specific area like your joints or start with a head ache?
I’m searching for info on MM pain because I haven’t experienced much pain, just head aches with neck pain. Maybe the real pain just hasn’t started yet ? My Doctor doesn’t give me much info, I have to research everything.

Sincerely Laurie😊
