Jim, Myeloma Canada had a webinar this week on complications. One topic was compression fractures. It may not be posted on their site yet, but it was very good.

Jim, When I was diagnosed with MGUS I was also diagnosed with severe osteoporosis. My bones were breaking with no trauma. That was in 2020. In 2023 I progressed to Smoldering. My back is hurting as I write this. What helped me then and now is taking supplements. I take 1200-1400 of Calcium & Magnesium, with extra D3 for absorption and K2 so it goes to the bones and does not clog my arteries. These supplements helped stop my painful legs cramps too. I like MRM Bone Maximizer III because it seems to work better than others. Some people take TUMS with good results. Just don’t forget the D3 and K2. I highly recommend Dr Brandy’s book “Beat Back Cancer Naturally”, to help stop or slow the progression.

Can MGUS cause vertebral compression fractures?

MGUS itself typically doesn't directly cause vertebral compression fractures. However, the search results mention that some people experience serious issues with fractures as their condition progresses from MGUS to smoldering multiple myeloma (SMM).

A MyMyelomaTeam member shared that they "went from MGUS to SMM in no time" and noted they were "having serious issues with fractures, and joints having to be replaced."

MGUS is generally a benign condition that rarely causes symptoms. Most people with MGUS don't experience bone problems. However, if you have both MGUS and osteoporosis (weakened bones), your doctor may prescribe bisphosphonate medication to help maintain bone density and reduce fracture risk.

If you're experiencing vertebral compression fractures, it's important to discuss this with your healthcare provider, as it could indicate disease progression or another underlying condition affecting your bones.
