For managing the current back pain, here are some non-medication options that may provide relief alongside the prescribed Tramadol:
• Using heating pads or ice packs
• Adjusting bed position/elevation
• Physical therapy (when approved by doctor)
• Using a back brace for stability Important: Before taking any over-the-counter pain medications like ibuprofen or aspirin, please consult with the oncology team first. These medications may interfere with treatments or cause other complications.

Once test results are in, the doctor can develop a more comprehensive pain management plan that may include:
• Bone-strengthening medications
• Radiation therapy (if needed)
• Additional pain management options
• Physical therapy when appropriate

Bone Marrow Biopsy will be easy for him if they can use conscious sedation and get good local anesthesia. PET scan is easy, start an IV and basically take a good book and entertain yourself between the injections. Please please ensure that he receives a chemo port before the chemotherapy infusions start. Makes life much easier. My husband Joe has been doing this dance for 5 year now. It is a wild ride, make sure you have a support system for yourself. Sometimes just a friendly chat on the phone with a trusted girlfriend can do wonders for your mood and sanity. Be grateful for each day and especially grateful that the technology and research has come a LONG way in past 10 years. There are choices for treatment plans that people never dreamed of. God bless you and him. One quick question- was your husband in Viet Nam in the military? If so, the PACT act through VA recognizes the exposure to Agent Orange as a definite automatic connect to Service Connection. The VA has been very good to Joe. We are grateful. God Bless!
