Kathyrn, I am similar to you, lots of plant based, but I noticed my low red & white blood counts went up when eating red meat. i tried salmon didn't seem to do the trick. So I am eating more red meat than ever, a meal a day. Other than that mostly plant based. I actually feel the extra energy from eating red meat.

turkey and ham for the holidays however. Salmon, halibut, prawns, lingcod, are common around here....sometimes blackfish. It depends on the season.
I'm not cutting out all red meat, but I've cut down significantly and eat leaner cuts. Once in a while I just have to have a burger; turkey burger is not the same, for me. Veggie burgers aren't bad. Anyway, I'm doing better than before MM. We all have our choices, huh?

I agree that we are at a much higher risk of infections. It's a balance to keep the myeloma under control without totally killing our immune system.

I read Beat Back Cancer and it had a lot of good info. Knowing my husband, I knew a strictly plant based diet would not be something he would stick to or enjoy, so we decided to eat clean, a lot of fruits, veggies, mostly fish and chicken, mix of dairy and plant based milk, avoid processed food as much as possible, we eat Ezekiel or sour dough bread I make, no sugar. I use Manuka honey, maple syrup as sweetener. I bought the cold pressed olive oil, use real butter instead of the chemical filled margarines, but sparingly. Small changes like natural peanut butter and almond butter, all the organic I can find. He takes Vit C, D with K2, omega3, melatonin, magnesium, super beets, elderberry syrup, CoQ10. I bought a juicer and blender and that makes it easier to get multiple servings of fruits and veggies in him. If he wants a steak now and then, ok with me. Focusing on healthy, nutrient rich foods, making sure he gets plenty of protein and fiber as well.
