When I was first diagnose with multiple myloma I was told that my shortness of breath had nothing to do with my cancer. Now I am hearing that fatigue is one of the main symptoms of multiple myloma. My shortness of breath causes me to not be able to do anything much because I have to stop what I am doing to catch my breath and rest a few minutes. Is this classified as being fatigue?

I had a lung test which showed nothing. Then I had a CT scan that showed the collapsed areas. Start with the lung test. It’s not fun but easier than most MM related tests.

I just had tests done for my heart and was told that my heart is normal, pumping blood like it is suppose to. Maybe I will ask for a lung test. Thanks!

Emma,
My heart condition was causing shortness of breath. Amyloidosis is common with MM. Ask for more testing. I recently found out I have small little areas where my lung is collapsed. I’m not sure how this happened. Maybe Covid?

No, shortness of breath and fatigue are not the same, though they can occur together, especially in conditions like multiple myeloma. Shortness of breath, or dyspnea, is a feeling of not being able to get enough air or breathing with difficulty. Fatigue, on the other hand, is an overall feeling of tiredness or lack of energy. In multiple myeloma, both symptoms can be exacerbated by anemia, which is a common complication of the disease.
