A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

However, it has definitely became much more intense in the past 2 years. I now must use a walker as my balance is very poor. Also my fingers are numb feeling, I also get a tingling burning, itchy feelings in my hands and arms in the early morning. Any advice to relieve these feelings would be appreciated.
Wish a great day for all of you.

I have neuropathy in my toes and I recently noticed some in my right arm. But you know it's minor when I think about the myeloma being active. I deal with it but I plan to ask my oncologist about the tingling next visit. I understand there is Rx for neuropathy. I just don't wanna take any more meds.

Peripheral neuropathy can indeed manifest before a diagnosis of multiple myeloma, as seen in cases of Monoclonal Gammopathy of Undetermined Significance (MGUS), which is sometimes a precursor to multiple myeloma. In some individuals, peripheral neuropathy is the first sign that leads to further investigation and eventual diagnosis of a related condition like MGUS or multiple myeloma. It's important to discuss any long-standing symptoms with your healthcare provider, as they can offer guidance on managing symptoms and monitoring your condition.

Terry yes there are meds for neuropathy and I did take gabapentin for a while but did not see any improvement so we discontinued it. I checked on lipoic acid yesterday but I am on thyroid meds so can't take that. It isn't fun but I can manage. I know that there are those who have much more pain than I so I try not to complain. But, sometimes life just seems more stressful than other times.
Have a great day and thank you.
