Is Multiple Myeloma Hereditary? Read Article...

I was exposed to a lot of chemicals remodeling homes. My two cousins who have it were also exposed to chemicals. I was also over-sedated during a surgery. It turns out that I have 2 genes that affect metabolism of drugs, to the point the drugs build up in my system and become toxic.

My wife and her younger brother fell into a flooded basement that had all kinds of petroleum products, fertilizers, cleaning chemicals, etc., and the fluid dried on their skin, the largest largest organ in the body. Younger brother had smoldering Myeloma for years before it progressed to MM, and had a bone marrow transplant. Wife is on monthly Daratumamab injection for maintenance, while younger brother is not on any maintenance.

Sadly my husband and 2 of his friends passed away from MM. The others are still in treatment...

An excellent question and would make for a classic case for the cause of MM. If your husband and the 5 friends could be assembled and participate an intense background investigation maybe a common thread could be formed.

For example, did they come from the same geographical area? Did they ever drink well water? Ever use carbon tetra chloride or take tetracycline? Ever get a bad sunburn? Take Viagra, a statin or blood pressure medication? Break any bones? Work or live around chemicals or chemical plant?

I’m out on a limb that it is not hereditary but that it is environmental and that could be as simple as a bad sunburn (humans have probably had MM before chemicals were invented).

It is more than coincidental that 6 people contracted the same disease in the same area at the same time.

It reminds me of the six Philadelphia Phillies players who contracted brain cancer and all played on the Astroturf at Veterans Stadium. The off gassing vapors may have caused it. Why didn’t all the Phillies die? Because some are predisposed to the disease.

Likewise not all get MM or other blood maladies because there is something genetically that we are predisposed to.

Perhaps the six gentlemen could come up with something that they all did or ate or breathed in. They could make history!
