Mike,

My SCT was seventeen days in the hospital and twelve days in a hotel adjacent to the hospital. The roughest days hit about three days after the chemo and lasted about three or four days. I walked the tightrope between nausea and diarrhea (never vomited). The nurses monitored constantly and adjusted meds as needed. During those 3 - 4 days, I wanted to sleep a lot.

During the 100 days, I tired easily early on, but strength and stamina returned as time went by.

You will need to be careful when you go out, as you will have the immunity of a newborn. I was cautioned to avoid contact with children, avoid crowds, mask up, wash hands, etc. We had our home deep cleaned, and had the air ducts cleaned before I returned home from the hospital / hotel.

You will be provided a list of proactive and preventative actions to take, and foods to eat and avoid. I followed the protocol and everything worked out. Never ran a fever, and never had a secondary infection.

All in all, the SCT was very manageable and has been worth the effort.

You know the drill. No crowds. But always wear the mask. Strength back, yes. No transfusion or chemo. Probably get a bone marrow biopsy and PET scan during that time.

During the 100 days are you isolating, or can you go places and do things if you are masked? Do you get your strength back during the 100 days or after? did you get transfusions during this process?

Two weeks in hospital then 100 days of immuno compromised recovery. Meaning no dusting. No vacuuming. YES! Wife was a real doll. No driving for two weeks but you could within 3 days. Just be careful. Wear a mask. It’s not that bad!
