Hello Janet. What is the kind of your transplant? Autologous or Allogenic? My experience was that you cannot avoid anxiety and stress but it is possible to overcome this feeling. Autologous SCT is very simple and the only difference with allogenic SCT is that you have a donor. Engage your mind in something stress free that you like doing during the transplant process. You do not have to worry much as your needs will be taken care of by your medical team. The infusion process does not last for even one hour and it's painless.
Request to make the environment in the SCT unit conducive to suit your personal needs if it is allowed. I pray your transplant team be very friendly. Myself I love listening to music very much and my transplant team allowed me to carry my small portable JBL sound system in the SCT unit . I remember during the actual transplant I told my care giver to keep replaying for me one of my favorite songs by Bob Dylans 'Blowin' In The Wind'. This helped my mind to forget what was actually going on and soon I was through the process. My lead doctor who happened to be a former senior military doctor was so delighted how this song brought him memories of a combat in foreign mission and we all found ourselves singing along. It was an amazing and friendly environment and we bonded so strongly to this day.
I have no doubt listening to music helped me to recover very fast during my 60 days stay in the unit and even today it is my secret therapy whenever I am very low. I wish you a successful transplant.
