How Do Those Go Of You Receiving Chemo Through Injections Handle It?
A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

I get three shots per week, two in stomach and one in upper thigh. Finding going though them harder each time we arrive. The thigh injection very painful and slow. Only in my first cycle, can’t imagine all that are yet to come. Feeling bad cause I know all of you are going thru the same or perhaps much worse. Maybe just need to express myself. Trying to keep the end goal in mind. Thanks in advance cause I know the support will follow. ☮️ and ❄️ from Minnesota.

Fortunately I have a high tolerance for pain so my injections were tolerable. I was able to discuss them with the nurses and optimize my pre injection meds such as the anti nausea and the anti itch meds. If I recall sometimes my injections were at the same time as my Dex. I was able to split my Dex into 2 doses and that was more tolerable. As for the injections, they need to go slow.

That is just what my Spirit and Soul needed to hear. Thank you for your encouraging words and understanding. Blessed Easter from ❄️❄️❄️ Minnesota. Built our log home ourselves last summer. God had a plan, that there would be a roof over our heads before this challenge began. He just never fails.

I’m assuming you are on Daratumumab (Darzalex FasPro) and Bortezomib (Velcade) in the belly and I have no idea what the thigh shot would be. Both belly shots must be injected slowly otherwise painful. My infusionists are excellent.

Now I hear if you are thin without much belly fat you will feel it much more than someone like myself who has developed love handles for the first time in my life. And I can grab the fat!

One of my infusers actually puts a pillow on my thigh to support her elbow as she is injecting. It may take her 4 minutes but we talk to pass the time.

I love chemo day!

If something is bothering you, more than likely someone else is suffering from it too. We are not unique......a lot of the time. I just feel strange asking about things, but being ME, I do anyway. lol

Susan,
Share away! That’s what a support group is for. I love it because i have no one to talk to about this at home.
