I was diagnosed with MM in September 2022 after a four year old knee replacement became infected. I started a Velcade/Dexamethasome/Revlimid regimen immediately. Had a stem cell transplant in February 2023. Restarted treatment with the addition of Daratumamab in April 2023.
My M Proteins have continued to go down, but I don't know if they have to become undetectable before I'm considered in remission.
Thanks for your wisdom.
Me too! The knee has been opened three times. That's quite enough.
Kathy, it was one of my biggest fears. Surgeon told us infections are very rare. We have a friend in our condo complex who had repeated infections. Hope you have no more infections🙏❤️🙏
They opened up the knee and cebrided all infected tissue, put in a liner embedded with strong antibiotics, and flushed the entire area. For a month after I returned home, I had daily infusions of strong antibiotics through the port I have from breast cancer in 2017. After all that, I took oral Doxocycline twice daily for six months.
Unfortunately, two months fter my stem cell transplant, my knee became infected again. My orthopedic surgeon opened up the knee (again), removed the titanium knee replacement, and replaced it with a joint made of some medical grade cement infused with heavy-duty antibiotics. I was in a rehab facility for 2.5 weeks after thaat gettin daily infusions of antibiotics, plus physical therapy. Once I returned home, I again took Doxocycline twice daily.
Almost a year later, I still take the twice daily Doxi, and probably will for the rest of my life.
Kathy how did they treat the infection in your knee that had a replacement?
Our specialist has said remissive state to us. My husband has been 0 for over 5 years and is on revlimid for maintenance. He recently had a knee replacement .
