Is A PET scan routine in the initial DX of MGUS. Doctor who initially diagnosed M Gus and my follow-up oncologist never ordered a pet scan but now after retirement of MD new MD wants a baseline pet scan

Hi Kathleen! I was diagnosed with Lambda Light Chain MM and it was initially diagnosed with tons of bloodwork but it was confirmed with a PET Scan, Bone Marrow Biopsy and a MRI. I guessing your doctor might want a PET Scsn to have a baseline to measure whether you are responding well to whatever treatment you are on!?? Not a bad thing to have at diagnosis time to look back on.

They usually order a PET CT or MRI for the initial diagnosis of myeloma. It sounds like the doctor just wants to make sure you are not progressing. I hope your insurance will cover it.
