Since I had colon cancer and chemo back in 2000, along with my problems with my right hip, my risks were more than I was willing to take. My STC and Hematologist agree that newer drug therapies are getting approved every day and have been showing equal results with SCT.
Dan, I was diagnosed 10/2022 at age 71 and had the ASCT this past June at 72. It was so nice we’re doing it twice! Another scheduled in 2 months. I trust my doctor as he immediately put me on 16 weeks of the d-VRd quad protocol which I hear is the gold standard of treatment. The transplant wasn’t as bad as I was told because he told me all the possible reactions and complications. For example, nausea and vomiting. I never vomited nor had any nausea. You will lose your hair. No big deal. It’s back in six months. You look Marine Corps. You can handle it. Don’t be a pansy. You got this! And we are here to hand hold and spoon feed you through it every day; all 14 days of your vacation in the hospital!
I have trust in my doctor, he’s leaning towards stem cell transplant.
Hi Dan,
I was 69 (April 2023) when I had my stem cell transplant and doing very well. I went through 16 weeks of treatment to being my numbers down. Yes, first few months were difficult, but it was mostly because of the fatigue associated with recovery. I am now in remission and have monthly maintenance treatments. What does your doctor advise? Listen to him and do research. Do you need a second opinion? Seek one out. Prayers heading your way as you make your decision.🙏🙏
Thanks Mark, my doctor told me 3 months in Cleveland as a In out patient. Just making sure of all I do.
