Does anyone know if blood is tested for light chains in transfusions?

They don't know what causes it. I think stress plays a role. He did get shot in the hip. So I was wondering about that too. Like some kind of metal poisoning or something. Poor guy. He is a fighter and a man of God. I hope his myeloma is not hard to treat at least. As far as blood transfusions go, he would have died without them. I personally have had about 15 transfusions not including platelets. I am very thankful for blood donors πŸ™

My husband spends 3 hours every 2-3 weeks donating platelets for patients. He started giving blood when my son was born and needed 2 open heart surgeries. That was 34 years ago. Red Cross did tell him that his platelets went to a woman in San Francisco who had cancer. That was nice to know.

I wonder if some of us may have gotten MM in a transfusion. Steve Scalise has MM and had transfusions when he was shot. I am baffled as to why I got it. I had transfusions. It makes me wonder.

Sharin, I looked this up. They test for lots of viruses. But I saw nothing about light chains.
