How Is Your Dexamethasone Prescribed?
A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

I was given it, take 20mg an hour before with premeds on Dara injection days. When I needed a refill it says 20mg 1st and 2nd day at beginning of cycle. First the NP said it was right- then I asked doctor, he said let’s do what you’ve always done- don’t take on second day.

Dex keeps me up all night. Of course I have to sleep over the next couple of days.

When I was taking Dex I called it my happy pill. I felt great for a couple of days and then crashed like everyone else. I was prescribed 40mg once a week during induction therapy. I have read and it has been mentioned in this thead that it is supposed to kill cancer cells, but can cause other damage so the doctors don’t like to keep you on it too long. Hope you are doing well today! Have a wonderful weekend!

Andrea, I would do what your doctor said and just take it as a premed on Darzalex days.

Hi Andrea, I take 40 mg. On my weekly injection day, I don’t sleep much the first night but physically feel good the next two days. I know dexamethasone isn’t good to be on long term but it is supposed to attack the cancer so it has that benefit. I weigh 190 so that might to too high a dose for a smaller person. Wishing you the best!
