Hello! My question is what are my risk factors and should i follow up with a different dr? My grandfather died of multiple myoloma. My mom was diagnosed a couple days ago and is still in the more tests phase. This disease wasn't really even on my radar as they say it is not genetic. A year or so ago i had a pelvis and back x ray as part of a arthritis screen and did not have arthritis. I was diagnosed as fibromyalgia. On the x rays however there were multiple bone lesions indicated by the… read more

Interesting Query. Trouble is, there are so many possible variants that one really can not say certainly and totally that MM is in no way genetic. To say that MM is at least rarely, if ever, genetic, would be a fair statement. But I, and four or more of my family, all have it now. Also, Four have had it at death. oldkarl

Definitely, at least see a hemotologist for testing. Bring your X-rays and any recent labs.

I would definitely seek another Dr. They found my MM by accident. They were looking at my spine for a spot and they did a biopsy and it turned out to be MM. My Dr called me 3 times to make sure I understood what was going on. I have stage 3 MM. been on Infusion since February.
Please see another Dr.

I see a big malpractice lawsuit in the making. As soon as X-rays show lesions you should have gotten MRI, CAT scan, PET scan. I got an X-ray and within minutes the doc said “this doesn’t look good.” Then MRI the PET. Then bone marrow biopsy. Then he said “is surgery on Monday ok?” In any case I would get a reputable law firm and let them recommend new team of doctors. We have a law firm here in Cherry Hill, NJ with 5 lawyers that are all doctors! Consultation is free and, of course, if they take your case you don’t pay a dime. WITH A FAMILY HISTORY OF MYELOMA YOUR PRIMARY SHOULD HAVE BEEN ON TOP OF THIS. For example, my Dad and his mom had Crohn’s disease and colon cancer so I got a regular colonoscopy to check. In any event it sounds like you need immediate diagnosis and treatment. Please keep us posted which may help others on this platform.
