What SUV Do I Buy With Bone Pain?
A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

Has anyone planned ahead for when travel to doctor appointments will be torture? I want to buy a SUV that I can get into and one that won’t hurt my hip or back and who knows what might break.

I ended up with a Cadillac XT5. 6 years old and only 34,000 miles. It was a lot less expensive than so many others.

Hi Paula, I know exactly what you’re saying. It’s very important to have comfort and something not high to get into when you have knee, hip and rib problems. My hips are so bad don’t have flexibility so it’s really problem twisting to get into vehicle. On farm we had F150 super crew to high couldn’t get in Sold it. We also had a Cadillac Sedan for years several year. ago made the switch Cadillac SUV’s XT5 I’ve had four of them. Very please, they have been all round great vehicle.
The new one I had saved my life this passed Oct2022, someone who ran the light hit me head on!! Was not my fault! Only had that SUV for 5 months!! I was sick over it but if I didn’t have that car I may not have walked away from accident! All airbags came out front and sides protected me, only had cuts and bruises! My Doctor said it was amazing I didn’t break any ribs or hips! I am in Stage 3 with all holes in my rib cage front on back, major part of my hip has hole where cancer was! So bottom line is review the cars very closely for safety because people who have our condition would not necessarily walk away from an accident. Wish you success in your hunt!

I am now on my second Hyundai Santa Fe. The key for me was heated seats -- I don't know if the brand makes any difference, but the warmth sure does for me.

I have been in the Auto collision business for almost 30 years. I recommend that you look at vehicle rating on cars on the computer. They will tell you alot. Especially ride comfort, plus easy access to the vehicle controls. Radio, a/c, cup holder, wipers, cruise control. I would also find a vehicle you like and rent it for 3 days. The worst thing is to go for a test drive and go this is nice. Than 4 months later. Decide I bought the wrong vehicle. Ask your friends what the pros and cons are the vehicle they drive. I am 6'4" and I have a truck. It rides like a big old Cadillac. Very comfortable, they re some nice mid size SUV being built. Your budget will be a larger part of your purchase decision. Vehicle prices are still way marked up. Good luck.
