Does anyone actually believe that managing your multiple myeloma is just like managing hypertension or diabetes. For my husband there is a world of difference. Most of the problems with these are in direct relation to his myeloma. Why do doctors tell you this?
Good news to me, but a cure is needed!
What the doctors mean is that it is no longer a short-term death sentence as it used to be. It is now a disease that for quite a number of people can be managed like chronic diseases as there are myeloma patients who are living with the disease for 20 plus and even 30 plus years
Baby Boomers grew up when Cancer was a death sentence. Now, doctors are trying to teach us that MM is more like a chronic disease (diabetes/hypertension). As long as the patient can stay with the treatment plan, they can hope to live a nearly normal life. Your quality of life changes with the on-going treatments and their side effects.
I just don't think it's true for everyone. Some people on here eat right, exercise every day and still have hard to control myeloma. The drugs we have to take can cause problems too. It's a balancing act.
