Has Anyone Here Needed A Blood Transfusion During The Days Immediately Following Your SCT Ie. Day +10?
A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

Brother is at Day+10 post SCT and received a blood transfusion today. He also had platelets given the last two days.

WBC's up to 00.5 from yesterdays 0.01
HCT (red blood cell volume) down to 20.6 from yesterdays 23.
Platelets up from 7 and 7 past two days to 14 today.

I guess what I was not prepared for was the recovery time. I was out of work for 3 months. A lot of fatigue, nausea and low appetite. It took about 5 months before I felt back to normal. But it was worth it. Again, good luck and be patient with the recovery.

Yes still inpatient which is good and is glad he chose inpatient sct - maybe coming home July 3 or 4. Yes Dr. said labs would plummet and then finally start to rise again. Glad he got the he transfusion support. Thanks and best to you also.

My husband had platelets and blood transfusions while in the hospital after his SCT. Now two years later he still needs a blood transfusion and platelets transfusion at times. He is worse now than before the SCT. He has other health issues so maybe that is why recovery is taking so long.

Is he still in the hospital? I was in the hospital for 12 days and got plasma transfusions and a lot of other blood chemistry IV's. I was told this was normal and to expect it. The chemo basically kills all your bone marrow and the stem cells help regrow it. In the meantime you have no bone marrow to create new blood cells and plasma. Thus the transfusions.
Good luck and I hope your brother gets better soon.
