Lab Results
A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

Newly diagnosed MM. IGG lambda light chain and on my second cycle of RVd. Recent blood work done shows my IGG level dropped from about 6000 to 1144. Kappa light chain serum went from 500 to 23. Albumin 3.4 and protein total 5.9. I don’t see anywhere on the blood work where it shows M protein level. Would it be listed by another name? Not sure which lab levels are the most important? Thanks

My M-Spike is checked through blood tests. The electrophoresis protein something. Anyway, it seems on mine if there are no "abnormal protein band" numbers (two of them) then there is no M-Spike.
Now there is a more sensitive test that can detect even smaller traces of the myeloma protein. My doctor doesn't routinely use that one, especially if other readings look good, such as the kappa and lambda light chains levels and the kappa/lambda ratio.

I know the m spike should be undetected.

If your referring to m spike then that would be tested for with a electropherisis urine test.

Should it be zero?

Dawn,
I just got my 3 month results back. This test took 2 weeks. It’s called Protein Electrophoresis Serum. Mine was 0.4.
