Hi, after 3 years in treatment and with no remission achieved due to genetic mutations, I was running out of options so I was approved for CAR-T therapy. My cells were collected Jan 5, 2023, genetically modified and re-infused Feb 27,2023 at Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh. I was an inpatient for 12 days to be monitored for side effects. I only had fevers for a few days and an issue with food tasting awful! But the potential problems were neurological issues and Bells Palsy. A lytic lesion which caused a large lump on my head resolved/disappeared in just a few days so I was very optimistic! At my first check-up after release, about a month after infusion showed remarkable improvement. After another month my Mspike was undetectable and my Kappa light chains went from 1829.6 to .6! I just had a petscan and everything that glowed like neon(like my whole body!)before the infusion showed no metabolic activity except for 2 minor areas. I am delighted…GOOD LUCK!

Success! I got my 30 day bone marrow biopsy last Monday, 7/17. On Tuesday I found out there was no detectable myeloma in my bone marrow, and my free kappa light chain was 1.2. Now I’m getting platelets and blood infusions on a regular basis, waiting for my stem cells to “kick in” and start making good cells. How long did it take for your stem cells to start producing good cells?

I got my my CAR-T cells on 6/19/23. Immediately started CRS reaction. Went into the hospital with flu like symptoms x10. I’m on day 25 now, feeling good, but have spent about 20 days in ICU. It’s been a rough go. I get my bone marrow biopsy and cancer bloodwork on Monday. 🤞
