Lyrica For Neuropathy
A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

How much Lyrica are people using per day to help with Neuropathy?

What side effects?

What other Meds are you taking with Lyrica to also reduce Neuropathy?

Are you experiencing swelling of your hands and fingers due to Lyrica - if so how do you deal with it?

For a few months, I’ve been on 75mg of Lyrica, twice daily. I’ve been okay’d by my GP to increase my Dose to 4 times daily but reading about Lyrica’s side effects, swelling of the hands and feet is a listed issue.

For at least two months… read more

Larry2,
Have you tried Nutritional Yeast? It has all the B vitamins, helps prevent neuropathy and helps with swelling. Tiger’s milk, is made from 8 oz of milk with a heaping tablespoon of nutritional yeast and a half teaspoon of unsulphered blackstrap molasses. You can also sprinkle nutritional yeast on your cereal or popcorn. If you take it 2-3 times a day, your next blood work will change for the better. My mom’s oncologist said she had the best blood and this is what she did. After 30 chemos - No neuropathy.

I have been taking Amitriptyline Hydrochloride 10 mg for several months for the Neuropathy monster and I am not experiencing any side effects. You might want to check it out.

Larry2 -
I was on 75mg if Lyrica, twice daily. They added Nortriptyline 10mg at night before bed which helped. No side effects from either. I've now upped my dose of Lyrica to 100mg, twice daily. It appears to be helping as I have some activity in my toes now, which I had been losing (in addition to balance issues). So far, so good on side effects. Gabapentin did nothing for me. Inquire about adding Nortriptyline to your regimen? It also seemed to help with a good night's sleep...may e a good side effect? In any case, good luck in your search for neuropathy relief! Do share if you find a good answer.... - Greg

Larry2,
For the Nutritional yeast take at least a heaping teaspoon or a heaping tablespoon. I get mine at Trader Joe’s. You can also buy Bob’s Red Mill small flake. Some others taste horrible. It takes getting used to. I think the unsulphered Blackstrap molasses helps with the taste since it’s sweet. It also boosts your iron levels.

Larry, I was all the way up to the max of 600mg./day and it gave me no relief whatsoever. It's been almost 5 years now and I have kind of just learned to live with the constant burning and tingling in my feet. I'm going to look into the Amitriptyline HCL mentioned earlier by Stevonmfl (Thanks to him).
I will say that since I got off the Revlimid at the first of the year(next gen sequencing), my fatigue is gone. This equates to being MUCH more active which helps a little with the neuropathy.
