A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hello everyone,

Can anyone tell me if they have received IV iron? My iron is still low even with me taking iron pills. My doctor seems to think my problem might be immune deficiency, I also have a lot of GI issues and they think if I weren't using iron that could help. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I don't know if this helps, but my oncologist also put me on iron supplement. He told me to take vitamin c with my iron pill cause my body doesn't absorb iron well.

Sable, I am a Nurse and I have seen Myeloma patients get IV iron. They usually had Anemia really bad. Iron does mess up the GI tract when taken orally. After my Femur Surgery, I had lost a lot of blood so they gave me Iron orally and I could only tolerate it for 2 days and asked to go off of it, my tummy couldn’t handle it. Have a good night! Love, Marcia 🌼🌸🌻
