Is There Any MGUS Symptoms?
A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

I looked in my portal and my doctor says maybe mgus. I don’t really have any symptoms. I was there for headaches which seem to be stress. I have inflammation. I’m not anemic yet. But I use to be due to fibroids and I have inflammation that I’ve attributed to my diet. My doctor has put me on antidepressants. I checked my blood test form November and everything was in range. My platelets were 249. I just don’t know what I should be looking for.

Cindy, Usually you don’t have symptoms or they are vague and not very troublesome. Was your MGUS found through a blood test? If it is MGUS - it is not cancer and can progress to the next step which is Smoldering Myeloma (pre-cancer) or it may not turn into anything at all. Hal is right and most doctors will advise not to treat MGUS and ,aybe not even treat Smoldering Myeloma until it turns into Active Myeloma. Hope this helps. Love, Marcia 🌸

MGUS has no symptoms except elevated immunoglobulin in your blood. No treatment is necessary or advised. The side effects of any treatment would be worse than the disease. There may be clinical trials for those with MGUS to determine if early treatment can prevent MGUS from becoming myeloma.

If you have MGUS, don't rush into treatment which can be worse than the disease. Count your blessings that you don't have active myeloma.
