Many of us have compression fractures of the spine along with our disease. For me, this is the greatest source of pain. Has anyone tried using an inversion table to decompress the spine once the fractures are stable?
I haven’t yet. My orthopedic said it would be beneficial if I used one. Hope this helps. Have you tried laying on a half round bolster like PTs use? That helps me. It stretches my spine and opens up my shoulders as well.
I haven't tried laying on one of those because it's difficult to lay flat. Anyway, I bought one(inversion table) this weekend. I have used it 3 times and it seems to be helping with the pain some. I just had an appointment with a neurosurgeon and he said don't use it. I understand his reasoning which is that our spines are fragile. I guess I should have waited until after the appointment to buy one.
I have found that water aerobics is WONDERFUL for my compression fracture. I also wear a Fentanyl patch and I am basically pain free. Best wishes and prayers for you!
Stacy, I’m sorry you had to stop taking Zometa. Is there an alternative drug you can take, Prolia or are last??
This is in addition to my first answer.....I think the Inversion Table is case by case, where you are in treatment. If you have taken Zometa for18 months to two years your bones are stronger than they were right after SCT. Also, use the table on the lower settings. But as always consult your physicians. I spoke with my orthopedic surgeon, physical therapist, and oncologist. I also get massages!
