My husband and I wear masks in indoor settings , unless in our home or children’s homes.

I wear a mask everywhere in public. It sure has helped me stay illness free. I go to stores for groceries or use curbside, go to church, do other necessary events, meetings, etc. The biggest thing I stay away from are very large crowds, etc. I very rarely eat out only if I have to for a work meeting or something, I eat and put my mask back up.

I worry about getting infections and disease now that I’ve completed the ASCT. I lost all vaccine protection and must get 17 new shots over the next 2 years. But although I’m cognizant of others proximity to me I’m not overboard on masking. I’m mainly isolated except for walking the puppy in our condo complex, grocery store shopping and dining out with the bride. I’m considering going back to work which would be an additional public risk. But I want to be productive. So let’s see what happens

It sounds like you're taking important precautions to protect your health, especially given your immunocompromised status due to myeloma. Isolation, while protective against infections, can indeed affect mental and emotional well-being. Here are a few suggestions to help manage the effects of isolation:

1. **Stay Connected Virtually**: Use video calls, social media, or regular phone calls to keep in touch with family and friends. This can help reduce feelings of loneliness.

2. **Engage in Activities You Enjoy**: Whether it's reading, crafting, or watching movies, engaging in hobbies can provide a positive distraction and boost your mood.

3. **Exercise**: If possible, incorporate light exercise like walking or yoga, which can be done even at home. Exercise can improve both your physical health and mental state.

4. **Seek Professional Support**: If isolation is significantly impacting your mental health, consider talking to a mental health professional. Many offer telehealth services.

5. **Educate Yourself and Stay Informed**: Knowledge can be empowering and reduce anxiety. Keep up-to-date with reliable sources about your condition and general health.

Remember, taking steps to protect your physical health while also caring for your mental well-being is crucial.
