Ready to Stop Judging Yourself?

Updated on March 27, 2019

"I was tired of hearing my harshest critic, the little voice in my head, so I became more kind to myself." -Member of MyMyelomaTeam

You may judge yourself and others every day without realizing it. Like many members of MyMyelomaTeam facing myeloma, you may judge yourself when you look in the mirror, when you forget something, or when you falter with an everyday task. The problem is when you let these internal judgments shape belief in
yourself.

Experts in mindfulness and self-care recommend pausing a moment when you find you're judging yourself. Be aware of these judgments. Ask yourself where they're coming from. Use the moment to be gentle and compassionate with yourself.

Here are recent conversations from members on MyMyelomaTeam:

"I've had nothing but good days since my first treatment last week. I hope it continues!"

"It’s my birthday today! My students decorated my room, brought donuts, and gift cards and a wonderful card that they all signed. My kids and grandkids came for dinner with my husband and me. Couldn’t ask for a better day!"

"All is well! Mostly having a good time. Enjoy not having to think about multiple myeloma every second. I push it away and get on with it whenever I can."

Do you recall a time when you were particularly harsh or critical of yourself? What are you doing to show yourself more kindness in those moments? Share that moment in the comments below or directly on MyMyelomaTeam.
