Drvd Treatment
A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

April 2nd what I thought was a bad hip and needed replacement turned out to be multiple myeloma. I was walking and my femur just broke...turns out it was as thin as an eggshell due to lytic lesions. I had a rod put in. 2 days later I had a rod put in my other femur. I am finally home walking with a walker. When I was in the hospital they talked about doing drvd treatment. Monday I meet with the oncologists to go over chemo schedule. Has anyone had drvd treatment? What can I expect? I'm… read more

Michael and Stephanie:

Daratumumab or Darzalex FasPro
Velcade or Bortcoming
Revlimid or Lenalidomide
Dexamethasone (steroid)

DVRd is the gold standard for induction therapy. My doc explained it in the beginning as “we can give you one and there’s a 50% chance of response and 25% chance of effectiveness. Two gives 75% response, 50% effectiveness. Three 100% response, 75% effective but all four is the highest response and effectiveness!”

He was right! So much so that I went from high risk and very aggressive cancer to “remission” with the ASCT (Autologous Stem Cell Transplant) as a follow up. Now I’m on maintenance each month with Revlimid daily 21/7.

Dexamethasone 15mg weekly pills
Dara injection in belly weekly
Velcade injection in belly weekly
25mg Revlimid 21/7

You may get:
2 cycles or 8 weeks
3 cycles or 12 weeks
4 cycles or 16 weeks
depending on what and how severe your cancer is.

Of course I get 4 cycles of the whole menu. I had IgG kappa light chain. It was in the spine, hip, shoulder and even the liver! Ugh!

This sounds so overwhelming and your heads are spinning but I can guarantee you will pick up on all this knowledge and you will be fine! You will not be 100% the same but close. You will have side effects but hopefully minimal. You will be poked a hundred times in the first year. No big deal.

This is treatable like diabetes. Take your meds and keep it at bay.

This group is awesome. And I am in awe of the knowledge so many have here. I’ve only been with this problem 18 months but I feel pretty confident and comfortable with where I am and where I’m going! We want you two the same way too!

I do not know what drvd treatment is? I had chemo for about 9 months before the Stem Cell Transplant and that went well. Treatments for MM seem very individual.
