Anyone Had A Bone Marrow Transplant?
A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have multiple myeloma stage 2. Have had chemo since October, working very well. In March I’m having a bone marrow transplant. My doctor told me it’s the hardest thing I’ll ever go through. How bad is it? Guessing the massive chemo is the bad part. Has anybody gone through this? Can you give me your experience? How bad is it? How bad will I feel when I go home? How long did it take you to feel somewhat normal and get back to work, and normal life? Any insight you can give me would be… read more

I’m hoping to get a SCT soon and was glad to hear that it is not that bad. I hate the thought of being really sick but have a gene that puts me at high risk so my Dr is really pushing for this. I am willing to do anything that will allow me to be here with my family, especially since I just learned I’m going to be a great grandma in September.

I’m in remission and recovering from extreme hip pain which resulted in my hip shattering from lesions and the other hip was unstable so it was replaced 5days later so I’m not wanting to do a transplant though it’s recommended I’m on no meds and I want to be off meds or maybe maintenance meds and if I flare again may consider it. Seeing a new doc for another opinion the end of the month and we will go from there. Sending you prayers. Hugs

I just went through SCT last Sept. It was not as horrible as I feared. I followed all of their recommendations and did very well. I had one 3 day stay in the hospital for an elevated temp. I slept a lot. Like 13-14 hrs of the day and some times longer. I think being able to sleep as my body requested really helped me to heal faster. I did have to get one unit of platelets but no plasma. Try not to let all the reading material freak you out. I am now in Complete response (aka remission). I will pray for you to have as good of a experience as I. Oh you will lose your hair. Mine fell out in about a hour (during my hospital stay). It was about 10 days or so after my cells were put back into me.
Good luck and I will keep you in my prayers.
God bless,
Connie7
