I was experiencing extreme leg cramps for months and I read they are a common side effect when taking statins. I had been taking the max dosage generic for yrs and I discussed with my doc. I was switched to a different brand that had best history of minimal cramping and reduced dosage. Cramps reduced significantly in pain but still occurred occasionally in bed or sitting too long. Take Vit E also that reportedly helps with cramps and final treatment is Theraworx. Use when cramp occurs and rub into muscles affected and poof, no more pain so I can go back to sleep.
Update: I have since added two table spoons of apple cider vinegar to glass of water and have seldom experienced cramps in legs or toes since. Take at least once and preferably twice a day. Just have to chug to get past the sour taste.

The bone and muscle pain I got while on statins was unbearable. I would wake up crying in pain. I can not tolerate any statins and am on injections of repatha. You might need to talk to your dr to see what might be a better solution for you.

My doctor suggested magnesium citrate but a nurse friend of mine (also a long distance runner) suggested 1 tsp of pickle juice for the terrible leg cramps. I just eat a pickle and it lessens the pain. I had trouble with diarrhea with the magnesium. I don’t know if the cramps are caused by neuropathy or MM. Anybody know?

I have had both. Typically bad toe cramps that are not consistent but painful and usually in the middle of the night while sleeping and you have to bend the toes back into place. Yellow mustard raw is the only thing that has helped with foot, and calf cramps. It usually works in a few minutes. I keep a couple mustard packets by my bed. The hand cramps can be even worse. The only things that have worked with them for me is putting the hands in very warm water (almost hot) or wrapping the hand in a stretchy rubber workout band to keep the hand from contorting. (That does not always work but has worked a couple times for me. Also, I've used Pedialyte Sport which has both Potassium and Magnesium. I find that the cramping happens in the middle of my 21 day cycle of lenalidomide (Revlimid) and dexamethasone. They are most likely to blame for the cramping but ask your Doctor. Good luck.
