Lamda Light Chain Numbers Increased
A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

My igg started at 6433 and as of this week it’s 4190 but my lamda light chain, free, serum started at 74.3 and now it’s up to 115.9 has anyone have this happen to them? I guess I’m trying to figure out what would make the numbers increase???

Hi, Merri! I was diagnosed in January of 2022 so know very well what you are experiencing right now. It's a lot but please know you will get through it and things will begin to make more sense. I am IgG Lambda high-risk smoldering multiple myeloma. My IgG when I started was over 3600 I think and my Lambda was always in the 200s until recently when it shot up to the high 400s. This was very upsetting to me because it impacted my FLC ratio of course, which had always been around 20-22 % and now jumped to 56%. But I learned that the free light chain numbers can go up and down for various reasons. The laboratory test results are a puzzle in the way it all fits together. I've learned to try and not get super anxious now when one number changes - and wait until the next test to determine if it is a true trend upward or not. Wishing you all the best!

One other thing I learned early on was to find a multiple myeloma specialist and NOT a hematologist/oncologist. Without going too far into my story, I was misdiagnosed initially by a hematologist/oncologist. Then I thought I found a specialist at Johns Hopkins but he seemed to be more into just stem cell transplants, though he happily saw me. But something about all of my numbers and the more I was learning about MM and what he was telling me, didn't add up. So I sought yet another opinion - and finally found MY medical team. So trust your gut and don't settle! Take good care!

Merri, seeing a Specialist with this disease is so important early on. Is there anyway you could do a telemedicine consult? 💕🙏

I also heard numbers can move around if you have been sick or if you have had vaccinations. Hope you can find help from your oncologist 🙏

Your regular oncologist should actually help you get one. Love Donna 💕

My kappa light chains are increasing and my team said If they get to 100 we will look at it. I’m thinking she will change the treatment plan. I will keep you posted.
