I have a friend who's sister was diagnosed with MM 3 mos ago. She claims an on call team at the hospital looked at an MRI of her back and said she's in stage 4. The sister's oncologist supposedly would not put a Stage on her MM nor give her a ballpark prognosis. I do know they were told the kidneys are unharmed at this time. Based on the wandering team's statement, the sister decided to not receive any treatment for MM and is thinking she'll be dead within 6 months. She's 77.
Myeloma stages only go to 3b. So she is getting misinformed. Myeloma is very treatable. The oncologist didn't give a timeline, cause he doesn't know. Encourage your friend to join our group. This is a good place for questions and support💜
Lots and lots of treatments she can try. I was also misinformed when I was first diagnosed. Getting a MM specialist was the best decision I made. They overruled my Onc on several occasions.
Unfortunately it's the sister who has POA and calls her a "wicked minx". It tears my insides apart that this gal is ending her life earlier than needed for no reason but sis wants this 'burden' over after 4 mos. Pray folks that the one with MM will encounter someone in the medical profession that will reach her. I just gave her the stats from the International Myeloma Found webinar from May '21: 90% respond to treatment, av 4 yrs remission 1st round, then add av of at least 7-10 yrs 2nd remission. Quote said we are at a watershed moment of an operational cure. All this info gas NOT made a diff.
Some one needs to go to the appointments with this lady.
