How To Find A Multiple Myeloma Specialist?

How To Find A Multiple Myeloma Specialist?

Sometimes I feel like my oncologist sticks to one course of treatment and it is a "once size fits all" approach. In looking around a little I see local oncologists/ hematologists who treat multiple myeloma but none who are a specialist. How do you find one? Is there an organization that certifies MM specialists?

I looked for my MM Specialist on the internet after locating the closest highly regarded Cancer treatment center that was within my regional area reasonable for travel and affordable. Then I googled MM Specialists at that location . My choices were Dana Farber Boston or Dartmouth Hickok in New Hampshire. It wasn’t easy because my local oncologist was not networked extensively. Your area may be more or less difficult. Whatever the result s MM Specialist on your treatment team is a must in my opinion. Major urban areas most often have a diverse staff is cancer specialists. There is a Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation that my specialist participates as a leading expert.
HealthTree may be able to provide direction on their website. The objective of having a MM Specialist is to develop a broader view of expertise for collaboration with your local oncologist. My treatment team consists of a PA, nurse practitioner, oval oncologist, cancer center social worker, cancer center dietician and of course the MM Specialist. Everyone has helped me at various times with compassionate care at their respective levels of expertise. I have been fortunate that we have quality care available in Maine.
Hopefully seek and you shall find applies.

I don’t know where you live but if going out-of-state is the answer in order to get a specialist, life is too precious to not make the effort. My husband would necedad if we had stayed with the local oncologist

Hi Akkat: Hope you are having a good day in Alaska. It has been raining in Texas for a month and all of the weather men think it is going to keep raining. Since I had gallbladder surgery on May 6th. I have felt under the weather. I didn't realize that it would affect your diet so much. I had to get a script for nausea pills. Akkat have a good day. Hugs for you.
