Having A Port Put In For Chemo
A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

So I finally got in to see local oncologist. He was a little shocked at I have had no treatment after seeing my records from the last 4 years
So my question he said I need a strong mix because my cancer is aggressive. So I need a port. Wondering anyone has any helpful tips on this. Will I be able to leave and be ok after having it put in or will I need to rest

I've had my port for about 12 years now, the only thing that bothers is me is the little round bulge in my chest. Other than that it's great and so much easier,

No you are good too go right after you are done and it is much more convenient than a pic or central line because it does not interfere with anything.

No I don't have a port yet. I have a couple of good veins they are using for the Darzalex. A port is much easier. It's done outpatient under sedation. You go home afterwards. It will be sore for a couple of weeks. . They can use it for infusions right away

I drove when I was getting chemo . Some of the strong ones did make me feel " off " after so I got a ride . It all depends what you get . Some of the chemo I did 6 days in the hospital every 21 days and after that I wasn't able to drive .

I use to access ports🤩 I have had 5 central lines. I will get one eventually. Just have to bite the bullet. I have seen the bad side of ports. Infections and clots. 😥
