At City of Hope, Duarte, California the do SCT’s from 4 months into the 80’s. They are the pioneers of bone marrow transplants and just did their 15,000 th SCT. They started in 1976 on a 26 year old college student with AML (acute myeloid leukemia). The latest research said COH, SCT puts patients in remission for 1 year longer than other institutions nationally. They have an awesome record and adapts their procedure to the patient. Hope this has helped. Love, Marcia

My oncologist and my specialist told me that it has more to do with overall health not age so much. That's why you are put thru more tests than you can stand in one lifetime. I was also told that if I even caught a cold the transplant would be cancelled, if my white blood cells were to low, it would be cancelled. Oh and BTW, I'm Stephanie, new here and very much in need of people to talk to. I don't want to sound like a psycho lonely person 😂 cuz I I'm not psycho, I do however get lonely. I can also be a great listener and sometimes have something useful to add. 😬🙄 So anyway.. Nice to meet everyone, I will formally introduce myself (where I'm supposed to today) .

My Doctor just said no SCT but was going to look at clinical trials I might qualify for. I'm in my early 70's and pass for 60 because I've taken good care of myself. I have 2 more cycles to go and we can go from there. Just started getting out and adding to my regular routine of a little work every other day.

I was diagnosed at 78 and my Doc said I was borderline for an sct but decided against it because of the early stage I was in and my age.
